Mary Whitby (* 1951) ist eine britische Byzantinistin, Altphilologin und Hochschullehrerin an der Universität Oxford.

Mary Whitby studierte an der Universität Oxford, erlangte ihren Bachelor-Abschluss 1974 (B.A.) und den Magister-Abschluss (M.A.) 1982. Im Jahr 1981 wurde sie an der University of Edinburgh promoviert. Sie ist Lector an der Fakultät für Altphilologie (Classics) in Oxford sowie Lecturer für Altgriechisch am Merton College und am Regent’s Park College in Oxford.

Whitby befasst sich mit spätantiker griechischer Literatur (Dichtung) vornehmlich des 4. bis 7. Jahrhunderts n. Chr., unter anderem Nonnos von Panopolis, das Chronicon Paschale, Pseudo-Oppian, Prokopios von Caesarea, Georg von Pisidien, Johannes Malalas, Paulus Silentiarius und Theophylaktos Simokates.

Sie ist zusammen mit Gillian Clark und Mark Humphries Herausgeber der Reihe Translated Texts for Historians bei Liverpool University Press.
